Selecting MIDI Play Devices

ChordWalk is not a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Instead, it sends MIDI data streams to a locally running DAW, an externally connected device with a DAW, or any selected MIDI-playing device. ChordWalk can also play locally installed SoundFonts. The guide provides detailed instructions for connecting to DAWs and external devices and installing SoundFonts.

When you select the MIDI Play Device selection icon, a floating window displays available MIDI-capable playing devices with their individual settings and controls for connecting to ChordWalk.

Note: Before setting up your routing selections, consult the relevant creator’s guide area for detailed guidance - use the search functionality to find this quickly.

Routing outputs to Midi Players

For creators, the ability to route output from any creative zone within ChordWalk to one or more individual instrument tracks in a DAW, or to any connected external MIDI-capable devices, is a game-changer. This feature allows users to send data streams from individual creative areas to specific instruments, enabling the simultaneous playing of multiple instrument sounds.

ChordWalk provides the flexibility to independently route output from the Chord Selection Matrix, the virtual piano or guitar, or any of the individual arpeggiators to one or more connected and activated MIDI destinations. You can even route an output to multiple MIDI destinations at the same time.

  1. Enable a destination using the green activation box to the left of the destination name.

  2. You can mute, solo, and adjust the sound volume routed to individual destinations.

  3. An indicator next to each MIDI destination selector shows if data is being transmitted to that destination.

  4. When connected to a synthesizer, select the instrument sound within ChordWalk from the drop-down menu beside the destination identifier.

  5. To assign virtual instrument sounds to destinations V1, V2, V3, V4, and V5, use SoundFont libraries. Click on the SoundFont File icon, and an Explorer window will appear. Select the SF2 SoundFont sound to assign to that destination.
