Recording Numa Player with ChordWalk using GarageBand

Numa Player does not provide a recording facility.

Here, we will show you how to record third-party instruments to a track in GarageBand.

Watch the video or follow the instructions below.

Select the Instruments icon in the top left corner, as highlighted below.

Next: Go to External.

Audio Unit Extensions will allow the capture of MIDI data from Numa Player using ChordWalk. Remember, GarageBand does not have individual MIDI channel identification, which means that GarageBand does not differentiate between MIDI Channel numbers. With the Audio Unit Extension selected, the same MIDI stream will be sent to all Numa Player Tracks, just like GarageBand.

As we wish to pair individual creation areas in ChordWalk independently with Individual tracks in Numa Player, we will run Numa Player as a separate application. We can now pair individual creation areas in ChordWalk independently with individual tracks in Numa Player. We must now capture the audio output from Numa Player somewhere. GarageBand is probably the best option for the iPad, as it is bundled with all devices and is a fully featured DAW. We will record the audio output from Numa Player to an audio track in GarageBand. We will select “Inter App Audio” as shown above.

Before you start your recording session, set the Tempo in GarageBand to match the tempo you have set in ChordWalk.

This will ensure that the Bar lengths generated using ChordWalk with Numa Player, or any Daw, will match the Bar lengths displayed for the recorded track in GarageBand.

To set the Tempo in GarageBand, select on the settings icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Set the Tempo value to corresponds with the Tempo setting in ChordWalk.

To start GarageBand recording audio output from Numa Player, Press Record.

Before starting your record session, ensure that the monitor volume is set to the level you desire.

When the recording session is finished, Press Stop.

Return to Tracks View by selecting the Tracks View Icon as highlighted.

The recorded Video Waveform will be presented on the Numa Player track.

With the suite of tools supported in GarageBand, you may wish to cut, trim, and edit the track further before you add it to a mix or render it as a composition.
