Metronome

A metronome is an aid to assist performers in maintaining a consistent, steady playing tempo. Traditionally, metronomes produce an accurate audible beat at a selected tempo.

A composition will have a structure that is broken into bars. When composing, you must know, at any period, where a beat is positioned in a bar section. The traditional metronome gives a sound on the beat and nothing else, and it does not advise where the beat is occurring in time.

To address this serious shortcoming, creators and performers are required to count beats and their bar number position to identify a position within the song structure. Using sheet music, it is clear to a performer where they are within a composition.

Creators don’t need the added distraction of counting beats and bars, and they should concentrate their efforts on the creation process exclusively. This is where ChordWalk provides a novel solution to address this counting challenge.

The selected Tempo is represented as a beat indicator scrolling across the bars to advise the Creator of their exact position in the composition structure in real-time. It is also important for the creator/performer to know where the beat is relative to the downbeat. The ChordWalk Metronome advises the current beat position relative to bar number and downbeat position.

ChordWalk allows you to select the number of bars you wish to display in the metronome image.

Important

The Metronome is always running and displaying Beat positions in real-time. When recording in your Daw or playing with other performers, the track must start on the first Downbeat of the First Bar.

Most quality DAWs have a Metronome count-in before the recording operation starts.

Prime Metronome

The Prime option, as shown below, will stop the Metronome running and will Prime it to start when the first Chord Selection is made in the Chord Selection Matrix.

This ensures that all Chords and Arpeggiators play immediately on the first Downbeat of the First Bar. Also, make sure the count-in is selected in your DAW.

Count-in provides an audible and visual indicator prompt from your Daw of the selected recording beat Tempo. Just count along with the count-in and then activate your First Chord Selection on the Downbeat and your creation will play in beat sync with your recording.

When recording, set the same Tempo and Time Signature in your DAW as in your ChordWalk composition to line up Track Bars and Downbeats.
