Beat creation using Full Chord Patterns

Playing all the notes, or a selection of notes of a chord, simultaneously allows you to play multiple Drum instrument sounds simultaneously. This also applies to any individual instrument supported in your DAW. Remember: You can toggle between Arpeggio and Full Chord selection for Beat creation in real time.

To create Beats using full chords, toggle the Full Chord Icon, as shown below. Next, set up a chord play pattern, as described earlier.

With Piano voicing selected for the C Major Seventh Chord, you can simultaneously play four sounds from one instrument. With Electronic Drums selected in Garageband and Arcade Frenzy as the instrument, you can generate some great thumping bass sounds. Any Acoustic or Electronic Drum instrument sound will produce a great Beat if you have a good rhythm pattern setup.

To create Beats using full chords, just toggle the Full Chord Icon

The Arpeggio setup for CM7 chord is playing as shown below. The Arpeggiator plays the note Pattern as configured and described earlier. Remember, you can mute steps to add variety to your beat patterns for Notes and Chords.

When Play Full Chord is activated, a pattern configuration window appears to set up a Chord Play Pattern to create Drum, Bass, or Synth beats.

An example of a Chord Play Pattern is shown above.

Remember, we covered this point earlier. If you have multiple pattern steps set up, it is important that the sum total of step length values is equal to either a Sixteenth (1/16), an Eight (1/8), a Quarter (1/4), a Half (1/2), or one (1). This will ensure that the set pattern is maintained within each Bar when looped across multiple Bars.

Below the Pattern total Note Value length equals one (1) so the same play pattern will loop on the Downbeat every time for 4/4 Time Signature. This is most important for Drum and Bass Beat creation. A Rest/Silence is initiated when a selected note is muted or its volume is set to zero.

The default setting is the value selected in the main Arp pain. In the example below, the default value is a Quarter note. Remember, you can change the volume and gate settings for each individual step.

You can also Mute an active step to add variety to your Beat Patterns.
